IRate Aligns with the Frederick Douglass HBCU Football Classic
IRate Media & Holding LLC has aligned with the Baldwin Richardson Foods Frederick Douglass HBCU Football Classic, an annual football event celebrating the legacy, tradition, and excellence of Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
Named in honor of Frederick Douglass, the iconic abolitionist and civil rights leader who spent many years in Rochester, the Classic reflects the city’s deep historical connection to education, equality, and cultural leadership.
Celebrating HBCU Football Tradition
HBCU Football Classics are known for their electric atmosphere, passionate fan bases, and cultural significance. Game day extends far beyond the football field, bringing together alumni, students, and communities through vibrant tailgating, community events, and the unforgettable halftime performances by HBCU marching bands.
The inaugural Frederick Douglass HBCU Football Classic took place in 2024 and featured Central State University facing Albany State University, establishing the foundation for what organizers hope will become a long-standing tradition in Rochester.
The 2025 Matchup
The second annual Frederick Douglass HBCU Football Classic is scheduled for September 27, 2025, with Central State University taking on Lane College. The event will once again bring together fans and alumni to celebrate the heritage and excellence of HBCU football.
Supporting Culture, Education, and Community
Aligning with the Frederick Douglass HBCU Football Classic reflects a broader commitment to supporting educational institutions, honoring cultural traditions, and highlighting the achievements of student-athletes across the HBCU community.
The event represents not just a football game, but a celebration of history, pride, and the enduring impact of Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
